PURE SIGHT& SOUND

FAQ

The questions Ed actually gets asked.

Straight answers about timing, cost, brands, and what the assessment looks like — the same answers he gives on the phone.

When in my build should I call an AV company?
At the framing stage — after the structure is up, before the drywall goes on. That is the window when every wire, conduit, and rough-in can be run cleanly through open walls. Once the drywall closes, retrofitting the same infrastructure costs significantly more, requires wall patching, and often compromises the result. Ideally, call us when you have architectural plans — we can flag room positioning and infrastructure issues before framing begins, at no cost to you.
What does whole-home pre-wiring cost, and what drives the price?
The cost varies by home size, the number of systems covered, and the complexity of the installation. The primary drivers are square footage, the number of rooms receiving audio or automation wire, whether a dedicated home theater is included, the security and networking scope, and the equipment room configuration. For a 4,000-square-foot custom home with theater, multi-room audio, automation, security, and networking, pre-wire typically represents a small fraction of the overall build budget — and it is many times cheaper than retrofitting the equivalent infrastructure after the walls are closed. We provide a written estimate after reviewing your plans or walking the site.
Do I have to use specific equipment brands?
No. Pure Sight & Sound is manufacturer-independent. We work with leading brands including Lutron, Elan, and Sonance, and we recommend what performs best in your specific room and at your investment level. We do not have a brand preference driven by dealer margin. If a different product performs better for your space and budget, that is what we recommend.
What is the Grandma Guarantee?
It is a commitment Ed makes on every installation: before we leave your home, every family member knows how to use the system. Every button. Every screen. Every scene or function they are likely to use. The least tech-comfortable person in the household should be completely at ease operating what we built — not dependent on a manual or a follow-up service call. If someone is not comfortable, we are not done.
Do you work with my builder or architect?
Yes, and we prefer it. When we are involved at the framing stage, we work directly with your general contractor, builder, or architect — coordinating our schedule to fit theirs, providing a written pre-wire specification for the project file, and reviewing plans at the design stage if invited. We handle the AV coordination so you do not have to manage it. Most GCs find the coordination straightforward after the first project together.
What if my home is already built?
Retrofit installation is absolutely possible. The approach is different — we assess your home's existing wiring, construction, and wall types to determine the cleanest pathways for whatever systems you want to add. Some retrofits are straightforward; others require creative routing. We will walk your home and give you an honest picture of what is achievable in your specific space before proposing anything.
What areas do you serve?
Pure Sight & Sound is based in Stroudsburg, PA and serves projects within approximately 100 miles — covering Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Carbon, and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania, northeast and north-central New Jersey, and Orange, Rockland, and Sullivan counties in New York. For larger commercial or new-construction projects outside this radius, call us and we will evaluate the project individually.
Are you insured?
Yes. Pure Sight & Sound carries general liability insurance. If your builder or project manager needs a certificate of insurance, we can provide one.
How long does a home theater installation take?
For a new construction project where we are doing the rough-in and trim-out in phases, the timeline is tied to your construction schedule. For a retrofit home theater installation in an existing home — room assessment, pre-wire, equipment installation, and calibration — a typical dedicated theater room takes two to four days of installation time, depending on the scope. We give you a specific timeline as part of the project estimate.
What makes Pure Sight & Sound different from other AV companies in the area?
Three things, practically speaking. First, Ed Kmetz holds a degree in Materials Engineering from Drexel University and has decades of engineering experience — he measures rooms and designs systems the way an engineer would, not the way a salesperson would. Second, we are manufacturer-independent; our recommendations follow what performs best in your space, not what we are most incentivized to sell. Third, we are locally based in Stroudsburg. When something needs attention, we are a phone call and a short drive away — not a crew dispatched from New Jersey.
Do you offer ongoing service and support after installation?
Yes. We service and support what we install. If something is not working correctly, if you want to expand a system, or if a family member needs a refresher on using the controls, call us. Our clients in the Poconos have been calling us for years, for new installations and for the service and adjustments that follow a well-built system.
What is the first step if I want to get started?
Call us at (570) 992-2992 or fill out the contact form. We will schedule a free, no-obligation assessment at your home, build site, or by phone — whichever suits you. We will walk the space, talk through your goals, and give you a clear picture of scope and approach before you have committed to anything.
